About Charlotte is Home
The Charlotte is Home Center is a women-led collaboration and a vital project for the Charlotte/Mecklenburg area. Born from firsthand experiences with the barriers newcomers face and led by strong community advocates, the center is an organic reflection of the area’s evolving demographics and requirements.
The Formation of CIHC
In 2021, Aldersgate Retirement Community offered ourBRIDGE a 5838 sqft building on Shamrock Drive for a lease fee of $1 per year. Met with this new resource and understanding the need to expand community impact, ourBRIDGE reached out to two mission-aligned organizations, Charlotte Community Health Clinic (CCHC) and Carolina Migrant Network (CMN), to co-create a one-stop-shop for newcomers, aiming to address the barriers to essential services for the Charlotte foreign-born population.
All three organizations bring years of experience in community-led work and recognize that their areas of expertise would be more effective and impactful for newcomers when combined under one roof.
The Charlotte is Home Center will function as an inclusive, intentional, multilingual buffer to the cultural, civic, and social shock newcomers experience as they start a new life in Charlotte, and in the United States.
